Five ‘Harry Potter’ Spells We Wish Were Real

It is about time that someone acknowledged how easy Harry Potter and his friends had it in the World of Magic (resurrected demon Lord aside).

We know magic exists outside of the Muggle world and trust us when we say our needs are as great as theirs. Here, for example, are just five spells from the Wizarding World that we wish were real. The Ministry of Magic cannot hide anything from us anymore…

1. Muffliato – to speak without people listening in

Imagine how much easier it would be to gossip freely in class instead of sending notes.

Muffilato sends a harmless buzz through the ears of those surrounding you so that you can hold lengthy conversations without worrying someone might be listening in.

2. Accio – to locate objects and have them brought to you

Do you remember in The Goblet of Fire when Harry, overwhelmed by the presence of a Hunargian Horntail in the Triwizard Tournament arena, summoned his Fire Bolt broomstick located in his dormitory?

You would never scowl at your forgetfulness ever again! Wave goodbye to library book fees and towel-less after-shower encounters, forever.

3. Alohomora – to open locks with just a tap

Forgotten your house key? Never again would you have to endure the punishment of waiting outside in the rain. The Unlocking Charm can be found in the Standard Book of Spells, Chapter 7. Thanks for that one, Hermione!

4. Wingardium Leviosa – the spell of flight, just a swish and flick away!

You could summon objects from high shelves if you’re short, fly your laundry to the washing basket without your friends ever seeing, put your cat outside with minimal effort and float away from all of your problems with ease…

5. Reparo – to fix broken objects

Clumsiness would no longer be as big of a problem with reparo, the trustworthy spell that would mend the sunglasses you sat on, fix the snapped string on your guitar and cure that ill-fated phone charging cable once and for all.

Remember that the Hogwarts Express leaves tomorrow morning (September 1) at 11am from the famous Platform 9¾ at Kings Cross Station, London. So, grab your acceptance letter, pack your trunk and get ready for a new school year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Ah, a girl can dream.

If only there were a spell that could cure Freshers’ Week hangovers…
